Property owners applying for a residence homestead exemption or persons age 65 or older exemption should file this form and supporting documentation with the appraisal district in the county in which the property is located.
Homestead Application/Over 65 Exemption - [Residence Homestead Section 11.13]
To initiate the Homestead Exemption application process, access the [Property Search] feature on this page to locate your property. Once you've identified your property, navigate to the [Property Services] section and click on the [Apply for Homestead] button to complete the required form. If the [Apply for Homestead] button is not visible, you may already have an existing exemption on record. To confirm the status of your exemption or inquire about its filing, please contact the Deeds and Exemptions department at (915) 780-2136.
If you filed a Homestead Exemption before 2022, it is possible that your date of birth is not recorded in the appraisal district's records. To ensure accuracy, we encourage you to visit our Deeds and Exemptions department. Please bring along your identification for verification and our staff will update your information if an exemption is on file. You will have to fill out an exemption form if there is not one on record.
Additionally, if you're eligible for the Over 65 exemption and you will turn 65 in the upcoming year, you are eligible for the exemption on January 1st of that year. For any questions or additional information, please contact the Deeds and Exemptions department at (915) 780-2136.
